SURRENDER POLICY

Here at FLOOF, we understand how heartbreaking having to rehome your dog can be and we are here to support you through such a difficult time. We have put this guide together to help you understand the process and to help you decide whether you wish to surrender or not. If any questions you have aren’t covered please ask the team supporting you.

What is the process for surrendering my dog?

  1. Once you have approached us we will take some basic details about the dog, your situation, and why you feel you need to rehome your dog. We do not pass any judgment and all calls and contact will be handled with compassion. These details are necessary as we do not use kennels and all dogs are placed into an adoption trial home and we want to place them in the right home the first time.

We will require proof of ownership and if there is more than one owner we need agreement from all parties involved.

  2. If we think we can help we will then send over a behaviour assessment for you to complete, please fill in as accurately and honestly as possible so we can find the very best home for his/her needs.

All our dogs have a health check within the first 48-72 hours of admission which is why we like to know the last vaccination dates, flea and worm treatments. We may also ask you to request your vet sends over any records and these are to be sent to; fortheloveofourfrenchies@gmail.com

All our homes are fully checked. both the premises and the humans assessed for suitability to have one of our dogs. All your and the new family details are kept confidential and we cannot tell you where your dog will be placed.

  3. When we feel we have the best home for your dog we will arrange for your dog to be collected; it is at this point that you will sign a Surrender Contract.  This can be a very difficult time and we are extremely mindful of this, but it is important that you understand what you are signing as the Surrender Contract is a legal document:

prior to signing the surrender form and the dog being met you can stop the process at any time.

Please do not feel obligated to continue unless you really want/need to, we would much prefer to help your dog to stay in its loving home with you.

  4. IT IS IMPORTANT YOU UNDERSTAND THAT ONCE YOUR DOG HAS BEEN COLLECTED THEY BECOME THE LEGAL PROPERTY OF FLOOF UK, we are under no obligation to consult you in any matters regarding the dog nor to give you updates.

  5. ESSENTIAL INFORMATION: It is vitally important that you tell us the absolute truth about all the BEHAVIOURAL aspects of your dog; this will protect the dog and ensure an appropriate home is found for HIM/HER.  If the dog shows any form of unprovoked/undisclosed and/or uncontrollable aggression within the first 48 hours of collection, the dog will be returned to you immediately and the Surrender Contract will become null and void.  IT IS PART OF THE CONTRACT THAT UNDER SUCH CIRCUMSTANCES YOU ARE OBLIGATED TO TAKE YOUR DOG BACK.

We are here to help as much as possible but please don’t pass on your aggression problems; we place dogs in real homes and will not put the safety of our volunteers or fosterers at risk.

  6. Once the surrender form is signed and the dog handed over, there is no grace or cooling off period.
